Frequently asked questions

Find the information you need

Yes. We understand that feeling comfortable with the person providing your support matters.

Where possible, Violet Haven will consider your preferences when matching you with support workers, including the type of support you need, your routines, communication preferences, interests and any cultural considerations that are important to you.

If something is not working, we encourage you to tell us. Support should feel respectful and appropriate to you, and your feedback can help us make changes where needed.

Consistency can make a big difference, particularly when someone is supporting you with personal routines, activities at home or regular community access.

Where possible, we aim to provide familiar support workers so you are not continually having to explain your preferences, routines and support needs to someone new.

There may occasionally be times when a different worker is required because of leave, illness, availability or changes to scheduling. If this happens, we aim to communicate clearly and make the transition as smooth as possible.

Over time, our goal is to build a team around you that understands how you like to be supported and what matters in your everyday life.

Yes if that is what you want.

Family members, carers and other people in your support network can bring valuable knowledge about your routines, preferences and support needs. We are happy to include them in conversations, planning and reviews where you have chosen for them to be involved.

The person receiving support remains at the centre of decision-making. We respect individual choice, privacy and the right to decide who is involved and what information is shared.

This means family involvement can look different for every person. Some people may want a family member closely involved in coordinating support, while others may prefer to manage most decisions independently.

Your sure can as we understand that support needs and routines can change over time.

You may need to adjust days or times, increase or reduce the amount of support you receive, or change the type of assistance you require.

We encourage you to speak with our team when something changes so we can discuss what needs to be adjusted and what can be accommodated within your current arrangements.

The more notice you can provide for planned changes, the easier it is to organise staffing and scheduling. Unexpected circumstances can happen too, and we will work with you to determine the most appropriate next step.

A good match involves more than simply finding someone who is available at the right time.

We look at the type of support required and consider factors that may affect how comfortable and successful the working relationship is. This can include the participant’s preferences, routines, personality, communication style, interests, cultural considerations and the skills required to provide appropriate support.

Before support begins, we want to understand what is important to the participant. That might include preferences around how personal care is provided, the way instructions are communicated, activities they enjoy, how much assistance they want with particular tasks or characteristics they value in a support worker.

Continuity is also important. Where possible, we aim to build familiarity rather than having participants regularly work with different people.

No matching process can guarantee that every working relationship will be the right fit immediately, which is why feedback matters. If a participant does not feel comfortable with a worker or believes the match is not right, we want them to tell us.

Our approach is to listen, understand the concern and look at what can be adjusted. The aim is to create support relationships based on respect, communication and trust, while making sure the participant continues to have a meaningful say in the way their support is delivered.

Violet Haven is committed to carefully selecting workers and maintaining appropriate workforce and safeguarding requirements.

The specific checks required can depend on the role, the type of support being provided and applicable regulatory requirements. This may include relevant worker screening, identity and employment checks, qualifications or credentials where required, and other checks relevant to the position.

We also place importance on suitability beyond paperwork. The way someone communicates, respects individual choice and approaches their responsibilities matters when working closely with participants and families.

As Violet Haven’s registration and workforce continue to develop, relevant compliance and screening requirements will form part of the organisation’s recruitment and onboarding processes.

You do not need to start again simply because your circumstances change.

A person’s support needs can evolve because of changes in health, mobility, confidence, living arrangements, family circumstances or personal goals. Sometimes these changes happen gradually; at other times they can occur quite quickly.

If your needs change, speak with the Violet Haven team so we can review what is currently being provided and discuss whether your support arrangements need to change.

This could involve changing the type of assistance you receive, adjusting the frequency or timing of support, or looking at whether additional assistance may be appropriate.

For NDIS participants, some changes may also need to be considered in relation to your plan, available funding and the types of supports included within it. We can discuss the support we are able to provide, but decisions about NDIS funding and plan changes sit outside Violet Haven.

For people receiving Aged Care or privately funded support, the options available may depend on the relevant funding arrangement or services being accessed.

The important thing is to let us know when your current support no longer feels right for your situation. Regular communication helps us understand what has changed and consider how your support can continue to fit around your everyday life.

If you need to contact Violet Haven about a change in circumstances, you can speak with our team directly and explain what has changed. From there, we can discuss what may need to happen next.
